CreditGenius review in October 2026
This review of CreditGenius brings together the key facts from its website, a check of its loan example against the National Credit Act limits, and a side-by-side comparison with three other South African loan-matching services.
The main takeaway: CreditGenius is not a lender. It is a free matching service that passes applications to partner lenders for loans of R500–R8,000 over 91–120 days, and it promises a response in about 15 minutes. In its own R3,000 example, fees make up about 71% of the cost of credit, and interest is the smaller part.
How does CreditGenius compare with other loan-matching services?
CreditGenius belongs to a growing group of free comparison sites that do not lend money themselves. The table sets it against three similar services, Binixo, Letocredit and Crezu, using the figures each one publishes on its own website.
| Feature | CreditGenius | Binixo | Letocredit | Crezu |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Operator | Adwells Group OÜ (Estonia) | INFINSA LTD (Cyprus) | Livornica AM LLC (Armenia) | Fininity OÜ (Estonia) |
| Loan amount | R500–R8,000 | R1,000–R50,000 | R500–R15,000 | R500–R350,000 |
| Term | 91–120 days | 91–120 days | 61–365 days | 6–72 months |
| Advertised rate | APR up to 317% | 0%–36% per year | 0%–36% per year | APR 12%–36% |
| Example on the website | R3,000 over 91 days: R3,915 total | R3,000 over 3 months: R3,000 total (0%) | R1,000 over 67 days: R1,000 total (0%) | R30,000 over 6 months: R31,800 total |
| Fees itemised in example | Yes: initiation, service fee, insurance | No fees shown | No fees shown | Total cost only (R1,800) |
| Cost of the matching service | Free | Free | Free | Free |
| Partner lenders | 6 named | 4 named | 7 listed on offers page | 45 claimed, not listed |
| Response time | About 15 minutes | 15 minutes | Within minutes | About 2 minutes |
| Payout time stated | Not stated | Same day possible | 15–30 minutes after confirmation | From 15 minutes |
| Income proof | No payslip for most small loans | Not stated | Any type of income | 6 months' employment |
The headline rates are not comparable. Binixo, Letocredit and Crezu advertise 36% as their top rate, while CreditGenius states up to 317% APR. The difference comes from what each example includes: Binixo and Letocredit show 0% loans with no fees, and Crezu shows only a total cost, while CreditGenius itemises the initiation fee, service fee and insurance. Whichever service you use, compare the total repayable in the lender’s written offer.
CreditGenius gives access to a different group of lenders. Its six partners (Wonga, Lime24, Boodle, FinChoice, Hoopla Loans and Mpowa Finance) do not appear on the partner lists of Binixo or Letocredit. Those lists show brands such as Prime Loans, LendPlus and Creditbar, so an application through CreditGenius reaches lenders that the other three platforms do not list.
The competitors win on size and speed. Crezu covers up to R350,000 over 6–72 months and Letocredit up to R15,000 over 61–365 days, while CreditGenius stops at R8,000 and four months. Letocredit (15–30 minutes after confirmation) and Crezu (from 15 minutes) also state payout times, which CreditGenius does not.
How CreditGenius works?
CreditGenius only finds a lender for you. It is not a registered credit provider, not a lender and not a financial institution. It therefore has no NCRCP number, and the credit agreement is always signed with the partner lender.
The service belongs to Adwells Group OÜ, a company registered in Tallinn, Estonia (registration number 17379392). Its terms of use say partners pay CreditGenius per click or per referral, whether or not you sign a loan, and that Estonian law governs the terms. Your rights under the National Credit Act 34 of 2005 still apply.
The six partner lenders named on the site are Wonga, Lime24, Boodle, FinChoice, Hoopla Loans and Mpowa Finance. CreditGenius describes them as registered with the National Credit Regulator, but publishes no registration numbers, so check your lender in the NCR register before you sign.
Interest rates at CreditGenius
Since the partner lender sets the price, the representative example on the CreditGenius site is the best guide to the cost. It shows a R3,000 loan over 91 days, repaid in three monthly instalments of R1,305:
- Interest: R261.25
- Initiation fee: R419.75 (incl. VAT)
- Service fee: R207, or R69 per month (incl. VAT)
- Credit life insurance: R27
- Cost of credit: R261.25 + R419.75 + R207 + R27 = R915
- Total repayable: R3,000 + R915 = R3,915, or 3 × R1,305
- APR: about 175%
Borrowing R3,000 for three months costs R915, or 30.5% of the amount. Fees and insurance add up to R653.75, about 71% of that cost. This explains why the APR reaches 175% while the interest alone looks modest.
A second example on the CreditGenius no-payslip page is more expensive: R2,000 over 120 days costs R900 and totals R2,900, an APR of 210%. Here the cost of credit reaches 45% of the amount borrowed.
How the example measures up to the NCA limits
A loan of up to R8,000 repaid within six months counts as short-term credit under the National Credit Act. The NCA fee and interest regulations cap interest at 5% per month on a first loan and 3% per month on later loans in the same calendar year. They also cap the initiation fee at R165 plus 10% of the amount above R1,000, and the monthly service fee at R60.
For R3,000, the initiation fee limit works out to R165 + 10% of R2,000 = R365, or R419.75 with 15% VAT. The service fee limit is R60, or R69 with VAT. Both fees in the CreditGenius example sit exactly at the legal maximum. The interest of R261.25 stays below the 5% monthly ceiling.
What the CreditGenius website does not make obvious
Beyond the cost, several details on creditgenius.co.za contradict each other or are easy to miss.
- Two maximum amounts. The text says R500–R8,000, while the amount slider is labelled up to R350,000.
- Two term ranges. The disclaimer says 91–120 days, but the calculator page also mentions terms of 6, 12 or 24 months.
- Two service fee figures. The fee table in the terms shows R60 per month, while the totals use R69, which is R60 plus VAT.
- No payout time. The site promises a response in 15 minutes but gives no official payout time, only a customer story about a R2,000 loan paid in 20 minutes.
- The calculator leaves out fees. It uses interest only, so the real instalment is higher than its estimate.
Pros and cons of CreditGenius
Pros
- Free to use: CreditGenius charges borrowers nothing for the search.
- Named partners: six lenders are listed with their legal names, so you can check each one before signing.
- Full cost example: interest, initiation fee, service fee and insurance are shown separately.
- Most small loans need no payslip. Bank statements, a SARS return or a SASSA, UIF or pension letter can show income instead.
- The site says partners allow early settlement without a penalty.
- The form takes under two minutes, with a response promised in 15 minutes.
Cons
- Not a lender: CreditGenius cannot approve a loan or change its terms.
- High short-term cost: APR of up to 317%, with fees at the NCA maximum in the published example.
- The operator is based in Estonia and its terms fall under Estonian law.
- The site lists no phone number, only email.
- As a newly launched service, it has no track record or independent reviews yet.
How do you apply for a loan
Applying takes two stages: a short form on CreditGenius, then the full application on the lender’s own site.
- Choose an amount and fill in the online form with your ID number, mobile number, income and bank details.
- CreditGenius passes your details to a partner lender, which verifies your identity and runs a credit check at a South African credit bureau.
- Finish the application on the lender’s website, where you see the APR, instalment and total repayable in writing.
- Sign the agreement with the lender, which pays the money into your bank account.

Requirements and what happens if you miss a payment
The basic checks on CreditGenius are light, but the lender still runs a full NCA affordability assessment.
What you need to apply
- Age 18 or older and living in South Africa
- A South African ID number or passport
- A mobile number
- A bank account in your own name
- Proof of income if the lender asks: a payslip, 3–6 months of bank statements, a SARS return, or a SASSA, UIF or pension letter
- Not under debt review: the site says new credit is not possible until debt review is formally concluded
If you cannot repay on time
- Your lender handles missed payments under its own credit agreement, not CreditGenius.
- CreditGenius publishes no late fees or collection steps, so read them in the lender’s pre-agreement statement before you sign.
- Contact the lender before the due date if you expect a problem with your salary or grant payment.
- If you have an adverse listing, you can still apply, but expect a lower amount and a higher cost.
- For a dispute with a lender, contact the National Credit Regulator.
What do borrowers say about CreditGenius?
CreditGenius launched only recently, so it has no independent rating on HelloPeter or Trustpilot yet. The customer stories on creditgenius.co.za come from the company itself and are not a neutral source. Until real reviews appear, check the reputation of the partner lender who makes you an offer, since that is the company you will repay.
